An exhibition titled "Boat Legacy in Indonesia" was presented at the Museum Bahari (Maritime Museum) in Jakarta on August 31, 2023. It will remain open to the public from September 1 to December 29, 2023. This exhibition showcases the preliminary findings of nearly five years of collaborative Indonesian-Italian research on Indonesia's boatbuilding heritage, encompassing archaeological surveys, historical investigations, ethnographic interviews, and more. Fieldwork was conducted in various Indonesian locations, focusing on wooden boatbuilding activities and archaeological sites.
The exhibit offers insights into the methodology used to record archaeological boat remains, living boatbuilding traditions, and features 3D prints of experimental boat reconstructions, traditional boat models, and tools. It also includes videos illustrating fieldwork activities and aims to raise awareness, particularly among younger generations, about Indonesia's rich maritime cultural heritage. Funding and support for this project and exhibit have come from various institutions, including the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EMKP, ISMEO, Università di Napoli L’Orientale, Universitas Indonesia, BRIN, and more.
