Cabinet Secretary Teddy Reveals 3 Key Messages from Prabowo at the 2026 BRICS Summit

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto returned home on Monday (September 14, 2026), following a working visit to New Delhi, India, to attend the 2026 BRICS Summit held on September 12–13. The presidential aircraft landed at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base at 00:08 WIB (Western Indonesia Time).

Welcoming the President upon his arrival were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Muhammad Herindra.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya conveyed three key messages emphasized by President Prabowo during the restricted session titled "Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism."

Indonesia attended with a vision to strengthen inclusive global governance while uniting the voices of developing nations in championing their interests and futures.

President Prabowo’s first message focused on the importance of national self-reliance and resilience. For Prabowo, a nation's ability to stand strong amidst global dynamics must begin with its capacity to meet the fundamental needs of its people.

"A nation's strength stems from its ability to meet the basic needs of its people—food, energy, and education. With a strong foundation, Indonesia will not be dependent on or easily dictated to by certain powers," said Teddy, as quoted in a press release.

According to him, this foundation is crucial for Indonesia to independently determine its development trajectory and national interests. Food, energy, and educational resilience are not merely matters of domestic necessity; they also serve as assets enabling Indonesia to stand on equal footing and play an increasingly active role on the global stage.

The second message conveyed by the President was the importance of strengthening unity among Global South nations. Teddy explained that the head of state cited an Indonesian proverb to remind everyone that unity is a source of strength in facing various global challenges.

"Quoting the saying 'United we stand, divided we fall,' the President reiterated the importance of the spirit of the Asian-African Conference. Nations of the Global South now stand on equal footing to champion their own interests and futures," he stated.

Teddy explained that the spirit of the Asian-African Conference has regained its relevance through this principle, particularly as developing nations assume increasingly significant roles in the global economy and geopolitics.

President Prabowo’s third message highlighted the immense strength of BRICS, which represents half of the world's population. According to the President, this potential must be translated into concrete collaboration that delivers direct benefits, specifically by opening up broader development opportunities for developing nations.

"BRICS represents half of the global population. This strength must be transformed into tangible cooperation: strengthening food and energy security; connecting markets, capital, technology, resources, and knowledge; and unlocking greater development opportunities for developing nations," Teddy stated.

Furthermore, Teddy noted that the President advocates for a more just and inclusive global governance structure. The United Nations (UN) must remain at the heart of the global multilateral system, yet it requires strengthening to effectively address global changes and challenges.

"The UN must remain the center of the multilateral system, but it needs to be strengthened to become more representative and responsive, and to deliver concrete results for the global community," he explained.

"Through its BRICS membership, Indonesia continues to actively work toward realizing a global order that is fairer, more equitable, and peaceful for all nations," Teddy said.
