Ministry of Trade Deploys Three Core Strategies to Boost National Exports Amid Global Headwinds

The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) is deploying three primary strategic initiatives to scale national export volumes and drive long-term macroeconomic growth. According to Fajarini Puntodewi, the Director General of National Export Development (Dirjen PEN), the integrated framework focuses on expanding international market access, sharpening the market competitiveness of local exporters, and aggressively diversifying both target destinations and the national product portfolio. This tripartite model aims to maximize foreign exchange earnings and generate domestic employment opportunities to counter prevailing global economic uncertainties.

To execute this roadmap, the Ministry is mobilizing its network of 46 international trade representatives, consisting of Trade Attachés and Indonesia Trade Promotion Centers (ITPC) worldwide, to provide continuous market intelligence and buyer outreach. According to trade ledger benchmarks, while monthly outbound shipments for May 2026 recorded a contraction to 23.20 billion USD due to shifts in the oil and gas sectors, Indonesia's cumulative January–May 2026 export volume maintained an upward trajectory, growing 3.02% year-on-year to hit 115.36 billion USD. International trade economists, logistics providers, and corporate supply chain managers should follow these policy implementations closely, as the aggressive pivot toward non-traditional markets will reshape trade infrastructure routing across emerging global corridors.
