Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that Indonesia’s macroeconomic indicators remain resilient amid global economic uncertainty, highlighted by a strong 5.61% year-on-year GDP growth in the first quarter of 2026. A crucial pillar of this sustained growth is the country's proactive economic diplomacy, specifically the conclusion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) negotiations. With the agreement targeted for ratification this year, approximately 90 percent of Indonesian export products stand to secure zero-percent import tariffs when entering the lucrative European Union market.
To complement this landmark trade agreement and fortify the domestic market for the second half of 2026, the government has launched a 26.34 trillion rupiah economic stimulus package. This massive initiative includes targeted food assistance, soybean subsidies for local food producers, public transit discounts, and an extensive national internship and vocational training program slated for July 2026 to upskill 220,000 vocational graduates for the global job market. International trade analysts, multinational corporations, and export-oriented manufacturers should monitor the impending IEU-CEPA ratification closely, as zero-tariff access drastically scales the competitiveness of Indonesian goods within the European trading block.
