President Prabowo Subianto announced plans to develop large-scale marine and fisheries cultivation centers across Indonesia to enhance national productivity and boost seafood exports. The government is currently preparing integrated shrimp farming projects spanning thousands of hectares, including approximately 2,000 hectares in Waingapu, East Nusa Tenggara, 200 hectares in Gorontalo, and around 14,000 hectares along the northern coast of West Java. The initiative is expected to support food security, create employment opportunities, and increase foreign exchange earnings through export expansion.

The government highlighted the strong performance of the shrimp farming sector, with the Kebumen cultivation area achieving harvest yields of up to 40 tons per hectare and employing hundreds of local workers. Indonesia’s fisheries exports reached USD 6.27 billion, growing 5.2% year-on-year, with shrimp contributing USD 1.87 billion or 29.8% of total exports. The administration aims to accelerate productive infrastructure development to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global seafood market while delivering long-term economic value for local communities.
