Indonesia will implement mandatory halal certification starting in October 2026 as part of its effort to strengthen consumer protection and enhance the country’s competitiveness in the global halal supply chain. The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) emphasized that halal certification serves as an important regulatory instrument that provides legal certainty for consumers while increasing trust in Indonesian products in both domestic and international markets.
The regulation will apply to a wide range of products, including food and beverages, cosmetics, medicines, and various consumer goods. The government views halal certification not only as a religious requirement but also as a global standard representing cleanliness, safety, and quality. The policy is expected to expand market opportunities, especially for micro, small, and medium enterprises, while strengthening Indonesia’s role in the rapidly growing global halal industry.
