The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is significantly ramping up infrastructure development to bolster national food security. In 2025, the government is on track to construct and rehabilitate irrigation systems covering 589,000 hectares. Building on this momentum, the Ministry has set an ambitious target to expand this coverage to 750,000 hectares by 2026. This large-scale initiative is a cornerstone of the national strategy to achieve food self-sufficiency, ensuring that agricultural lands across the archipelago receive a reliable and sustainable water supply to maximize productivity.
A key focus of this program includes the development of the primary food estate in South Papua, which aims to transform 10,000 hectares into highly productive farmland. By integrating advanced irrigation networks with enhanced regional connectivity, the government seeks to reduce logistics costs and streamline the distribution of agricultural yields. For industry stakeholders, these strategic investments signal a robust commitment to long-term economic stability and offer significant opportunities for collaboration in strengthening Indonesia’s agricultural supply chain and supporting the welfare of local farming communities.
