The government's decision not to prohibit Lebaran homecoming this year is considered to be able to help economic growth. However, the government must be able to take responsibility that this decision will not increase the positive cases of Covid-19 considering that daily cases are currently experiencing a decline.
This was conveyed by the Economist of the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef), Bhima Yudhistira.
"There is certainty (the impact on economic growth) if the government is confident in telling us to go home for Lebaran. During homecoming there will be an economic turnaround, there will be an increase in the rate of economic transactions," Bhima said when contacted by Liputan6.com on Tuesday (16/3). / 2021).
He said the government's decision not to prohibit the Eid homecoming will encourage higher household consumption, as well as the occupancy rates of hotels and restaurants. Apart from that, it will also be used as income for PT Jasa Marga as the toll road provider.
"Also, usually before Lebaran or homecoming there is a culture of showing off so many people buy new vehicles and new clothes," he added.
On the other hand, the government is considered to be able to control the spread of Covid-19 after the Eid homecoming. Do not let positive cases actually increase afterwards, which will hit the economy.
"So, what must be prepared properly is how the homecoming decision must have the responsibility to control the post-homecoming pandemic," said Bhima.
