The East Kalimantan Provincial Government is shifting its focus from being a raw material producer to becoming a center for fisheries downstreaming through the Cultivation Village (Kampung Budidaya) concept. This strategic move aims to meet local food needs and welcome the presence of the New Capital City (IKN) as a national geoeconomic hub. Each district and city is encouraged to develop specific flagship products, such as catfish or tiger shrimp, to provide certainty for investors in placing their capital. With structured production centers, East Kalimantan is optimistic about attracting significant investment supported by more value-added and sustainable natural resource management.
For association members and business players, the development of these cultivation villages covers the entire value chain from modern breeding to post-harvest processing and ecotourism. The primary focus is directed toward export-oriented commodities such as seaweed and crabs to enhance the competitiveness of regional fishery products in the global market. In addition to strengthening infrastructure, the government is committed to maintaining ecosystem balance by establishing over 300,000 hectares of marine conservation areas by 2025. Synergy with universities is expected to produce high-quality human resources ready to support the transformation of East Kalimantan's fishing industry into a more modern and efficient sector in the future.
