Indonesia and Canada are entering a new phase of agricultural cooperation, strengthened by the Indonesia–Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). During the “Insights to Actions Canada–Indonesia Partnerships in Agrifood” forum, both countries highlighted opportunities to turn their strong diplomatic ties into concrete collaboration. Canada offers advanced agricultural technology and sustainable practices, while Indonesia provides a large and growing market needing modernization. CEPA is expected to boost supply chains, market access, and support for small farmers through technology, investment, and better trade certainty.
Speakers noted challenges such as Indonesia’s low agricultural productivity and outdated farming methods, but emphasized that CEPA can help bridge these gaps. Canada already exports key commodities like potatoes and wheat to Indonesia, while Indonesia benefits from improved standards, logistics, and environmentally friendly packaging for global competitiveness. Both nations believe this partnership can accelerate agricultural innovation, sustainability, and mutual economic growth.
