Strengthening Competitiveness as Key to Global Expansion: Klaten-Made Guitars Ready for International Markets

Indonesia’s Minister of Trade, Budi Santoso, emphasized the country’s strong potential in the global musical instrument market, particularly due to its expertise in crafting high-quality wood-based instruments. He highlighted that enhancing competitiveness through improved product quality and design support—such as online coaching programs for MSMEs—remains essential for elevating local musical instruments onto the world stage. The Ministry of Trade continues to encourage producers to utilize initiatives like the UMKM BISA Ekspor program to expand their export capabilities and target markets such as India, Pakistan, and various African countries.

As part of market-expansion efforts, the Ministry facilitated JR Sanjaya, an MSME guitar producer from Klaten, in pitching to the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Osaka. This aligns with the government’s broader strategy of connecting MSMEs with global buyers through pitching sessions and business matching supported by 47 trade representatives across 33 countries. JR Sanjaya—known for its fully handmade guitars and its commitment to inclusivity by engaging 80 local artisans, including workers with disabilities—has also shown strong domestic performance with online sales reaching 3,000–4,000 units per month. The company hopes government support will continue helping them scale production and secure export opportunities.
