The Badan Karantina Indonesia (Barantin) is encouraging Indonesian durian to enter its first export stage toward international markets. This move marks a significant milestone for Indonesia in boosting the global competitiveness of its horticultural products. As the agency responsible for ensuring biosecurity and export viability, Barantin is supporting and supervising the preparations for the upcoming durian exports, which are expected to take place soon.
According to Barantin’s head, Sahat Manaor Panggabean, the supervision covers sanitation standards, pest and disease prevention, product quality assurance, and compliance with international regulations. He emphasized that a successful export is not just about opening new trade routes, but also about ensuring every product leaving Indonesia reflects the nation’s quality, safety, and reputation. Currently, the durian set to be exported is in frozen form — though exporting fresh durian is also a possibility.
