In October 2025, 15 tons of Kopi Arabika Bajawa—valued at IDR 1.56 billion—were officially exported from Desa Mukuvoka in Kecamatan Bajawa, Kabupaten Ngada, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), to Bangkok, Thailand, highlighting Indonesia’s position as a premium coffee producer. The coffee is renowned for its distinctive flavors, pear and chocolate notes, and fruity hints of orange and apple. Local young entrepreneurs and farmers emphasize the importance of generational renewal and collaborative support across multiple stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of the Flores coffee industry.
The export achievement stems from a partnership among IPB University, PT Astra International Tbk (through its Desa Sejahtera Astra and One Village One CEO programs), and the Kementerian Pertanian RI’s Directorate-General of Plantations. The ministry stated that this model of downstreaming and empowering farmers through strong institutions— cooperatives and farmer-owned companies—strengthens farmers’ bargaining positions and access to financing. It is expected to serve as a replicable template for other agricultural commodities in Indonesia.
