Indonesia has expressed full support for elevating ASEAN–New Zealand relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) during the ASEAN–New Zealand Commemorative Summit in Kuala Lumpur, marking 50 years of cooperation. Representing President Prabowo Subianto, Foreign Minister Sugiono reaffirmed that the ASEAN–New Zealand partnership is rooted in trust and shared values, and praised New Zealand’s continued support for the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
Sugiono emphasized the importance of a forward-looking and resilient partnership amid evolving global dynamics. He also reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to the ASEAN–Australia–New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) and encouraged swift ratification of the amendment protocol. Highlighting future collaboration, Sugiono identified opportunities in the blue economy, sustainable fisheries, and marine-based renewable energy, as well as deeper engagement with the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF). He welcomed the adoption of the Joint Vision Statement on CSP, underscoring cooperation across four pillars—peace, prosperity, people, and planet.
