Small Businesses Encouraged to Expand Global Reach through Export of Local Products

Many Indonesians still assume that exporting requires large-scale operations and complex systems. However, in the digital era, exports can start small — even with a single local product sent abroad to introduce the taste and culture of Indonesia to the world. Amir Hamzah, Founder and CEO of Master Bagasi, emphasized that exports do not need to be massive to make an impact. “Start with one sambal, one batik, or one local snack — each can open doors for Indonesian products to enter the global market,” he said during an academic session themed Opportunities and Challenges of Export in the Digital Era at Institut STIAMI, Jakarta.

The event introduced students to the mechanisms of cross-border e-commerce, covering topics such as international order management, global marketing strategies, and brand empowerment for local businesses seeking global exposure. Master Bagasi was highlighted as a bridge connecting thousands of Indonesian products with diaspora communities in over 100 countries. Teguh Santoso, Head of the Business Administration Program at STIAMI, expressed appreciation for the insights shared, noting that technology now enables even micro and small enterprises (MSMEs) to export efficiently and competitively. The initiative is expected to foster campus-industry collaboration, allowing students to engage directly with global business practices and contribute to Indonesia’s digital export growth.
