Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, emphasized that the country’s bold push for a thriving digital economy hinges on two pivotal elements: robust computational infrastructure and a steadily growing pool of digital talent. He pointed out that the nation’s vast business potential in the digital space is backed by abundant resources and a government-driven effort to cultivate the necessary skills. Patria highlighted that the digital economy across the ASEAN region is projected to hit up to USD 1 trillion by 2030, with Indonesia poised to contribute roughly 40% of that total value.
To realise this ambitious target, he underscored the need to pair infrastructure build-out with an investment in human capacity. The government is preparing for the demands of advanced sectors like artificial intelligence by developing data centres and AI-ready computing systems. At the same time, Indonesia is aiming to train around nine million digital professionals by 2030, recognising that even the best infrastructure will fall short without skilled talent to activate it.
