Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has called for a major digital overhaul of Indonesia’s National Single Window (LNSW) trade monitoring system, citing poor integration across government agencies that hampers efforts to detect illegal imports and under-invoicing. During a recent inspection, Purbaya found several agency databases disconnected from the central platform designed to track import-export activities in real time. He emphasized the need to transform LNSW into a digital intelligence hub that consolidates all trade data to quickly identify discrepancies and smuggling attempts.
The minister also expressed willingness to meet with the Indonesian Filament and Fiber Producers Association (Apsyfi) to discuss protective measures for the struggling textile industry, which has been hit hard by cheap imports flooding the domestic market, especially from China. The textile sector has faced massive layoffs and factory closures, with Apsyfi reporting 60 factories shutting down between 2022 and 2024, leading to the loss of 250,000 jobs. Purbaya reiterated the government’s commitment to keeping local industries alive and safeguarding employment.
