Indonesia’s Home Affairs Ministry and Environment Ministry have collaborated to launch the Clean Indonesia National Movement (GNIB), a nationwide initiative aiming to promote environmental cleanliness and healthy living habits through 2029. The program focuses on building collective responsibility for maintaining clean homes, schools, workplaces, and public spaces, aligning with President Prabowo Subianto’s priority agenda, Asta Cita. The government targets universal access to household waste collection and proper management of 90% of national waste by the end of the program.
A joint decree, soon to be signed by Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian and Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, will mobilize local governments to implement GNIB activities and create healthy, comfortable environments. A national task force will enhance institutional coordination, public education on waste management, sanitation, and reducing visual pollution. Additionally, a detailed action plan will guide regional efforts with monitoring down to village-level data.
