Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa enacted a safeguard import duty (BMTP) on cotton yarn to shield Indonesia’s textile industry from import surges. Enforced through PMK No. 67/2025, effective early November, the tariff will gradually decrease over three years starting from IDR 7,500/kg. The policy covers HS codes 5204, 5205, and 5206 and applies to most countries unless exempted under WTO rules with valid Certificates of Origin.
Industry players have welcomed the move while urging tighter import oversight to address illegal imports and unfair trade practices.
