Indonesia’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Ngurah Swajaya, emphasized the need to fully implement the Indonesia–EFTA Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IE-CEPA) and Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) to boost trade and investment ties. Speaking at a panel discussion titled “Indonesia & Switzerland in Dialogue” at the University of St. Gallen, he highlighted the importance of involving SMEs and improving their understanding of these agreements.
Ngurah noted that Swiss investments in Indonesia reached USD 244.9 million in 2024, while Indonesia recorded a trade surplus of USD 1.46 billion. He also cited over 100% export growth to Switzerland in the first half of 2025 (USD 3.14 billion or IDR 52 trillion). While noting Indonesia's stable macroeconomic performance and strategic regional role, he also pointed out challenges such as slow bureaucracy, supply chain limitations, and renewable energy demands.
