The Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendag), through its Directorate General of National Export Development (PEN), is urging Indonesian food and beverage (F&B) businesses to intensify efforts to enter the U.S. market. The nation’s F&B products are noted for their distinctive flavours and high value‑added diversity, though exporters face stringent export requirements to the U.S. During the “Navigating Regulatory Challenges and Optimising Business Opportunities for Indonesian Food & Beverage Products Entering the U.S. Market” forum held during Trade Expo Indonesia 2025 in ICE BSD City, Tangerang on 18 October 2025, Director General Fajarini Puntodewi emphasised that while Indonesia’s F&B sector is a fast‑growing export champion, accessing the U.S. requires compliance with agencies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), covering strict regulations on labelling, nutrition facts, ingredients, and production processes.
Exports of Indonesian processed F&B to the U.S. reached USD 1.02 billion in 2024, or around 18 % of total global F&B exports from Indonesia. Meanwhile, industry players see rising demand for clean‑label and health‑oriented products, particularly via U.S. e‑commerce platforms, and consider regulatory hurdles as opportunities to build brand trust internationally.
