At the 40th Trade Expo Indonesia 2025 (TEI 2025), the mining segment emerged as the most successful, recording export transactions worth around USD 5.5 billion. Other sectors also made notable contributions: palm oil and related products reached about USD 2.3 billion, while charcoal and briquettes featured among the stronger secondary export streams. The scale of mining’s achievement highlights its dominant role in Indonesia’s current export agenda, especially within the TEI’s theme of “Discover Indonesia’s Excellence: Trade Beyond Boundaries”.
This outcome signals two important insights for Indonesia’s trade and industry landscape. First, the high value of the mining-sector transaction at TEI suggests substantial global demand for Indonesia’s mineral and extractive output — positioning mining not merely as a local strength but as a key export driver. Second, while other sectors like palm-based products continue to contribute meaningfully, they are outpaced by mining in this particular forum, pointing to both the opportunity and risk of export dependency on extractive industries. For policymakers and businesses, this underscores the importance of leveraging mineral exports strategically while also diversifying and enhancing value-added activities in other sectors to build a more balanced export portfolio.
