Airlangga: Indonesia Aims for Top Rank in Sharia Economy with Halal Industry Boost

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that Indonesia is ready to lead the global sharia economy by strengthening sectors like Muslim fashion, halal food and beverages, tourism, and pharmaceuticals. Currently ranked third globally, Indonesia could rise to the top with consistent Sharia compliance. Airlangga emphasized the USD 20 billion demand for Muslim fashion and highlighted that Indonesia's F&B industry is uniquely fully Sharia-compliant, unlike other nations where halal certification is optional.

He noted the halal F&B industry’s value reaches around USD 109 billion (IDR 1,000 trillion), and its growth is central to the 2025–2045 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). Strategies include expanding Sharia People's Business Credit (KUR), promoting gold savings in Islamic boarding schools, and digitalizing halal certification (Sih Halal), with 5.9 million certificates issued so far. Over the past decade, IDR 75 trillion in KUR has been distributed to 1.3 million borrowers, showing strong momentum toward inclusive and resilient economic development.
