The US Dairy Export Council (USDEC) and Indonesia’s Food and Beverage Industry Association (GAPMMI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in dairy trade. The agreement outlines collaboration in areas such as participation in international standard-setting, sharing expertise to promote sustainable dairy production, and joint communications to highlight both the nutritional and economic benefits of dairy. This MoU builds on prior USDEC partnerships in Indonesia and signals a more structured, long-term engagement between U.S. dairy stakeholders and the Indonesian food industry.
This pact comes amid forecasts of growing dairy demand in Indonesia: domestic fresh milk currently meets only 16 % of national consumption, while imports have ranged from about USD 247 million in 2024 to USD 453 million in 2022. With Indonesia launching a USD 28 billion school-meals program that includes milk, the demand outlook looks compelling. The MoU thus positions both parties to respond to scaling demand while shaping trade policy influence, sustainable production practices, and nutritional messaging in the coming years.
