Indonesia’s batik industry continues to gain global recognition, as shown by a remarkable 76% increase in exports at the beginning of 2025. According to Detik Finance, the export value of batik and batik-related products reached USD 7.63 million in the first quarter of the year. This surge highlights how batik — a traditional art form deeply rooted in Indonesian culture — has successfully adapted to international markets.
In one of the production centers in Depok, West Java, artisans at Batik Tradjumas were seen working diligently to complete batik orders for Japan, the United States, and the Netherlands. The growing demand from these countries reflects not only the rising appreciation for Indonesia’s cultural heritage but also the quality and innovation of local batik producers. The government views this performance as proof that creative and cultural industries like batik can play a crucial role in boosting Indonesia’s non-oil exports. The combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern design has made batik a symbol of national pride while also driving economic growth through international trade.
