Indonesia recently exported 15 tons of Arabica coffee, worth approximately IDR 3 billion (about USD 180,000), from the slopes of Mount Argopuro in East Java to Saudi Arabia. This move highlights the capacity of Indonesian micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to compete on the global stage. Most of Indonesia’s coffee farms are run by smallholder farmers, and this export is presented as evidence that well-organized medium-scale operations can drive growth across the broader MSME ecosystem.
The export aligns with rising national coffee output, growing from 279.94 million kg in 2023 to 316.72 million kg in 2024. This upward trend underscores Indonesia’s position among the world’s leading coffee producers. The Argopuro shipment not only opens new markets but also signals confidence in Indonesia’s ability to scale its agricultural exports while empowering local enterprises.
