Patimban Port is Prepared to Become an Automotive Export-Import Center

The Indonesian government is preparing Patimban Port in Subang, West Java to become a key hub for automotive exports and imports, shifting much of the vehicle traffic from Jakarta’s Tanjung Priok port. Ambitiously, in 2027 Patimban is expected to rival Tanjung Prioke completely built up (CBU) vehicles and automotive parts, with an effort to ease the burden on Priok by redirecting vehicle shipments there. One Japanese automaker is already using Patimban for exports and domestic distribution, and domestic vehicle shipments to places like Medan and Kalimantan are being routed through Patimban instead of Priok.

While development is ongoing, the government is seeking additional investment to expand capacity, including dredging deeper channels so larger vessels can dock. Officials expect that using Patimban will reduce logistics costs and dwelling time for businesses in West Java compared to Priok. Ambitiously, by 2027 Patimban is expected to rival Tanjung Priok in terms of its significance as a main port in Indonesia.
