The quarantine authority in West Kalimantan (Kalimantan Barat) has officially supported the first export of kratom from the region. A total of 343.5 metric tons of kratom were shipped, with a declared value of approximately IDR 15.4 billion, destined for India. This milestone was realized through the coordination of the Quarantine Agency (BKHIT Kalbar / Barantin Kalbar), which ensured that all regulatory and inspection requirements were met so that the kratom could be exported in compliance with international standards.
Local and national officials participated in the ceremonial release at Dwikora Port, Pontianak, signaling a new era in direct export from Kalbar. By enabling kratom to be exported directly from Kalbar rather than routing through ports like Surabaya or Jakarta, the region can reduce logistical costs and increase efficiency. Officials emphasized that this export sets an important precedent for Kalbar’s agricultural and plantation sectors, showing that previously contentious commodities like kratom can now be legally and responsibly traded. With the regulatory framework (notably under the relevant Ministry of Trade regulations) now in place, growers in Kapuas Hulu and other parts of Kalbar are motivated to expand production. Overall, the export of 343.5 tons of kratom marks a turning point—demonstrating the potential of Kalbar’s natural resources, strengthening the value chain from farm to export, and opening up new economic opportunities for the region’s farmers.
