Indonesia and Switzerland are strengthening their economic ties through the Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETC). Since the implementation of the Indonesia–EFTA Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in November 2021, bilateral trade between the two countries has tripled, reaching USD 3.11 billion in 2023, with Indonesia recording a surplus of more than USD 2 billion. Swiss investment in Indonesia has also shown significant growth, reaching USD 244.9 million in 2024, an increase of more than 63% compared to the previous year. Today, around 150 Swiss companies operate in Indonesia, creating a strong foundation for long-term collaboration.
Through the JETC forum, both nations identified several strategic areas for cooperation, including low-carbon industries, digital economy, healthcare, vocational education, and capacity building for SMEs. These initiatives aim to improve Indonesia’s industrial competitiveness, enhance workforce skills, and expand market access for Indonesian products into Switzerland and beyond. The two governments also agreed to extend their development cooperation program for 2025–2028, involving SECO and Indonesia’s Bappenas, with a focus on sustainable growth and inclusive development. By optimizing the Indonesia–EFTA CEPA, both countries are confident that stronger collaboration will drive not only trade and investment but also sustainable development, positioning Indonesia and Switzerland as strategic partners in navigating global economic challenges.
