Indonesia is projected to consistently maintain a hydrogen surplus until 2060, according to data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The projection shows that hydrogen production will continually exceed domestic demand throughout the 2025–2060 period. This surplus positions Indonesia as a potential key player in the global clean energy market, with opportunities to export hydrogen as an alternative energy source while supporting the national energy transition strategy.
The surplus is driven by Indonesia’s abundant natural resources and strong renewable energy potential, especially from water, solar, and biomass. With long-term demand growth expected across industries, hydrogen is set to play a vital role in reducing emissions and supporting decarbonization. This outlook reinforces the government’s commitment to clean energy development, ensuring both domestic supply security and international competitiveness.
