Indonesia Seeks Global Halal Industry Partnerships at INA-LAC 2025

Indonesia is pushing to deepen its ties in the global halal industry at the INA-LAC 2025 forum, held September 22-23 in São Paulo, Brazil. Officials from Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), including Deputy Abd Syakur, presented the country’s current halal laws, regulations, and the shift from voluntary to mandatory halal certification. They emphasised that halal status involves more than religious compliance—it also encompasses product quality, hygiene, safety, and competitiveness in international trade markets.

In addition to policy discussions, Indonesia used the forum to engage directly with Latin American and Caribbean firms via business-matching sessions, responding to strong interest in halal certification. As of September 2025, BPJPH has established partnerships with 94 halal certification bodies across 37 countries (including three in Brazil), and has registered over 118,000 halal products domestically. These moves, Indonesia believes, will strengthen its role as a strategic partner in shaping the global halal ecosystem and open up new cooperation and trade opportunities with Latin American and Caribbean nations.
