President Prabowo Subianto has concluded a four-country diplomatic tour that began on 19 September 2025, generating substantial investment commitments and strengthening Indonesia’s global partnerships. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the trip was primarily aimed at attending the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, where Prabowo delivered Indonesia’s address following Brazil and the United States. Japan was the President’s first stop, marked by a visit to the Indonesian Pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025, the event secured USD 23.8 billion (IDR 397.5 trillion) in investment pledges. His visit also drew praise from French President Emmanuel Macron, who personally expressed his appreciation for Prabowo’s UN speech. In the United States, Prabowo met FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who reaffirmed support for Indonesia’s youth football academies.
The tour continued to Canada, where Prabowo was welcomed by Governor General Mary Simon and Prime Minister Mark Carney. The visit resulted in the signing of the Indonesia–Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA-CEPA), under which Canada will reduce tariffs on 90.5% of Indonesian goods, a move expected to significantly boost bilateral trade. In the Netherlands, Prabowo was received by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, with discussions leading to the Dutch government’s agreement to return around 30,000 historical Javanese artefacts, fossils, and documents. Wijaya confirmed that Indonesia’s Minister of Culture will finalise the necessary documents to facilitate the repatriation process. The four-nation tour showcased Indonesia’s growing global role, securing investment, trade benefits, and cultural restitution while strengthening diplomatic ties.
