Indonesia’s halal industry plays a vital role in boosting the national economy. The halal certification not only enhances consumer trust by guaranteeing product compliance with Islamic principles but also provides a competitive advantage to producers in both domestic and international markets. Micro and small businesses can be integrated into the halal value chain. While these enterprises are essential for economic inclusion, many still face obstacles—such as limited knowledge, lack of access to halal certification, financial constraints, and inadequate production infrastructure.
With government support (e.g. halal certification programs, regulatory frameworks) and increased awareness among producers, Indonesia has the opportunity to expand its halal export potential and raise the global competitiveness of its halal products. Moreover, the halal industry is not just a religious requirement but a strategic economic sector — one which can drive growth, deepen market access, and empower smaller enterprises if challenges in certification, infrastructure, and capacity are addressed.
