Canada is intensifying its efforts to expand exports to Indonesia through the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA-CEPA). The country is targeting up to 95% duty-free access for its products within the next eight to twelve months. This ambitious goal is part of Canada’s strategy to diversify trade beyond its traditional partners, especially the United States. The sectors highlighted in this agreement include agriculture, energy, telecommunications, defence, and aerospace, as well as emerging areas like small modular nuclear reactors, where Indonesia has shown growing interest. Both governments aim to finalise and ratify the agreement within about a year, potentially sooner, to accelerate implementation.
Canada projects that once the agreement takes effect, bilateral trade between the two nations could double within six years. This move signals a deepening economic relationship and opens the door for broader cooperation, benefiting industries and businesses on both sides while enhancing Canada’s role as a key trade partner for Indonesia.
