Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Ottawa on 24 September 2025, after delivering a speech at the United Nations in New York. He was welcomed at Macdonald-Cartier International Airport by Canadian Minister of Trade Maninder Sidhu, Indonesian Ambassador Muhsin Syihab, and other diplomatic and governmental officials. His itinerary includes meetings with Canada’s Governor General Mary Simon at Rideau Hall, and a private discussion with Prime Minister Mark Joseph Carney at West Block, where he will jointly witness the signing of the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA-CEPA).
The ICA-CEPA negotiations began in June 2021 and were concluded in November 2024, with implementation formalised in 2025. Under this agreement, Indonesia’s key export goods to Canada will be natural rubber, vehicle parts, cocoa products, and machinery. In return, Indonesia will import from Canada items such as wheat, chemical fertilizers, wood pulp, soybeans, and precious metals. After the Ottawa engagements, Prabowo is scheduled to depart the same day for the Netherlands, where he will meet King Willem-Alexander.
