Indonesia is now the world’s second-largest producer of geothermal energy, behind only the United States, with an installed capacity of 2,744 MW. The country’s potential is much greater—reserves are estimated at 23,742 MW. Given these strengths, Indonesia is positioning itself as a global hub for renewable geothermal energy.
To accelerate development, the government has rolled out a comprehensive policy package. It is also promoting partnerships with international players to share technology, skills, and best practices. Geothermal energy is highlighted for its reliability, as it can run continuously, exceeding a 90% capacity factor, making it a keystone for Indonesia’s sustainable energy future. Also, the 2025 Indonesia International Geothermal Convention and Exhibition marked the inauguration of the Indonesia Geothermal Excellence Centre and drew participation from over 22 countries and 150 companies.
