The Ministry of Agriculture, through its expert staff member Hermansyah, announced the preparation of 1,335 hectares of agricultural land in South Lampung, Lampung Province, as a pilot location for smart farming. This initiative positions Lampung as a model province for adopting smart farming practices in Indonesia. The project, located in Trimomukti Candipuro, involves collaboration with PLN for electricity infrastructure powered by solar cells, ensuring efficient and sustainable energy supply. Planned facilities include electric tractors, electric combine harvesters, and charging stations for electric vehicles. By utilizing renewable energy, smart farming is expected to reduce agricultural production costs by up to 70%, making operations more effective and efficient.
The pilot project will be expanded to other regencies across Lampung, including East Lampung and Central Lampung, with an initial demplot area of around 1,000 hectares per regency. Currently in the site planning phase, the program also envisions developing agrotourism alongside farming facilities. Funding sources include regional budgets, as well as potential funding from corporate social responsibility programs, and potential investments from international partners, particularly from China and Russia. To ensure the project’s long-term success, universities from across Indonesia will be involved in conducting research and developing supporting technologies, reinforcing the role of Lampung as a leader in smart and sustainable agriculture.
