On 17 September 2025, a shipment of 19.7 tonnes of kolang kaling from South Sumatra was exported to Thailand, via the Port of Boom Baru, Palembang. Kolang kaling is a new product that has successfully penetrated the global market. Prior to being exported, the product was subjected to a series of assessments to ensure compliance with the destination country's regulations. Furthermore, the exported kolang kaling product was accompanied by a Phytosanitary Certificate, thus meeting the requisite quarantine, health and food safety requirements.
The South Sumatra Quarantine Agency anticipates that South Sumatra's position as an international trade gateway can be further strengthened by the shipment of kolang kaling products from Boom Baru Port. Furthermore, it is essential to encourage cooperation among all parties so that more products can compete in the international market, including animal, fish, plant, and derivative commodities.
