Collaboration Becomes the Key! Indonesia Invites Global Investors to Develop Oil and Gas and Pursue Net Zero Emissions

Indonesia is actively encouraging global investors to collaborate in developing the country’s oil and gas (migas) sector while simultaneously pursuing its ambitious Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060.  Industry groups like ASPERMIGAS aching 1 million barrels of oil per day by 2030, positioning this target as a critical step toward energy security and sustainable growth. To achieve these objectives, several strategies are being prioritised. These include enhancing production through innovative technologies such as Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS), which not only support cleaner operations but also help increase output via Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). In addition, the government is reactivating idle oil wells, expanding LNG and refinery infrastructure, and launching new exploration blocks to attract both domestic and international investment.

Gas is seen as a bridge fuel in Indonesia’s energy transition, playing a vital role in shifting toward renewable energy while maintaining reliable energy supplies. To accelerate this, the government is funding gas transmission pipelines through the national budget, ensuring wider access and utilisation. Collaboration is highlighted as the key to success. The government is inviting global investors to contribute not only capital but also technology transfer and joint studies. At the same time, supportive regulations and incentive mechanisms are being put in place to foster a more investor-friendly environment. Industry groups like ASPERMIGAS emphasise that while renewable energy development progresses, the oil and gas sector remains essential in ensuring a smooth and secure energy transformation.
