Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto states that the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), set to be signed on 23 September 2025, has the potential to increase Indonesia’s exports to the European Union by 2.5 times over the next five years. Currently, trade between Indonesia and the EU is valued at approximately USD 30 billion, and with IEU-CEPA in full effect, this could rise to around USD 60 billion.
IEU-CEPA still requires ratification in Indonesia and in the 27 EU member states, which involves legal approvals and national legislative processes. Full implementation is projected to begin in the first quarter of 2027 if all steps proceed smoothly. In short, IEU-CEPA could mark a major turning point for Indonesia’s export growth—unlocking large market access, removing tariffs, and propelling exports significantly upward with careful implementation and global alignment.
