On 16-18 September 2025, the PEMSEA Network of Local Government (PNLG) Forum 2025 takes place in Jakarta. This year's PNLG Forum, themed 'Towards a Sustainable and Inclusive Blue Economy: Linking Climate, Nature, and Energy'. The international forum was officially inaugurated on 16 September 2025. With the participation of local and national leaders, as well as international partners from ten countries, this event underscores Indonesia's pivotal role in propelling global collaboration towards a sustainable and inclusive blue economy. PEMSEA has become the primary regional cooperation mechanism for 11 member countries and 21 non-state partners. Through the PNLG and the PEMSEA Network of Learning Centres (PNLC), both networks are designed to strengthen the implementation of Integrated Coastal Management (ICM), which has proven effective in promoting synergy between development and coastal ecosystem protection.
In this forum, it is hoped that stakeholders are able to establish a robust and cohesive network, thereby enhancing the quality of ecosystems while preserving the natural beauty of the coast and sea sustainably. As the host country, Indonesia reaffirmed that coastal and marine issues are not merely environmental, but are directly related to the economic, social and security aspects of the region. The Jakarta Provincial Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ICM as a strategy to deal with tidal flooding and flooding, and to protect marine ecosystems by implementing key policies and programmes such as integrated coastal management. Furthermore, Indonesia emphasises the importance of expanding the application of ICM, accelerating blue economy innovation, and strengthening regional collaboration in climate change mitigation and marine biodiversity conservation.
