The Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan, Chandra W Sukotjo, has emphasised Indonesia’s readiness to broaden economic ties with Pakistan through joint ventures and strategic partnerships. Speaking at a meeting with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), he highlighted the many sectors—such as mining, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, processed food, renewable energy, and healthcare—where cooperation is possible. He also pointed to Pakistan’s advantageous geography as a gateway to deeper economic engagement.
From the Pakistani side, LCCI leaders urged concrete steps to balance trade, noting that imports from Indonesia vastly outweigh exports. In 2024–2025, Pakistan imported about USD 2.9 billion worth of goods from Indonesia but exported only around USD 271 million. To reduce this imbalance and boost bilateral trade (with a target of raising it to at least USD 5 billion), they suggested leveraging existing trade agreements, exploring a Free Trade Agreement, enhancing business-to-business links, and pursuing joint ventures in areas like defence, education, agriculture, and tourism.
