Facing economic pressures and aiming to strengthen job creation, the Indonesian government has announced a USD 1 billion stimulus package designed to revitalise the economy. The funds will be deployed across several priority areas to ensure that the stimulus has both immediate and lasting impact. Several short-term acceleration programmes that cover multiple sectors are included in the package to support workers, students, and key industries. It also includes cash-for-work programmes managed by the transportation and public works ministries. Focusing on building infrastructure and housing projects in rural areas, the programmes are expected to generate employment opportunities for over 600,000 individuals between September and December this year. Moreover, there is an allocation of funds for six-month internships for 20,000 recent university graduates, as well as tax subsidies for over half a million workers in the hotel, tourism, and café industries.
Further significant stimulus package initiatives include food aid and an urban renewal pilot in Jakarta to build settlements and small marketing platforms. In a related move, Minister of Housing Maruarar Sirait stated that state banks will disburse IDR 130 trillion in construction loans for selected property developers and small businesses. The government anticipates that the stimulus measures will contribute to achieving its 5.2% economic growth targets this year.
