The Indonesian government is ramping up efforts to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), recognising their vital role in driving growth and reducing poverty. As of late 2024, there were 56.14 million MSMEs, with around 96.84% classified as micro businesses earning up to IDR 2 billion annually. These enterprises contribute 60.51% to the country’s GDP and provide jobs for 97% of the workforce, making them a cornerstone of the national economy.
To boost their growth, the government is hosting MSME Job Fairs nationwide, offering assistance with business licensing, certification, and market access. A recent fair in Lombok brought together 1,000 micro entrepreneurs, creating opportunities for networking and collaboration. The government is also implementing an “8+4+5” policy package and expanding the People’s Business Credit (KUR) program, targeting 2.3 million MSMEs and aiming to generate 4 million new jobs. These initiatives are designed to strengthen MSMEs as a resilient foundation for sustainable economic development.
