The Indonesia-Europe Business Forum 2025: Synergy for New and Renewable Energy

On 8-9 September 2025, the Indonesia-Europe Business Forum (IEBF) 2025, with the theme 'Indonesia-Europe Synergy for New and Renewable Energy', was held in Oslo, Norway. This event is part of a series of IEBF events previously held in Berlin. The 2025 IEBF in Oslo was attended by 16 agencies from Norway and Denmark, including renewable energy companies, financing institutions, and representatives of the Norwegian government. The Indonesian delegation at this meeting included PLN, PLN Indonesia Power, PLN Nusantara Power, Pertamina New and Renewable Energy, and the Secretariat of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). The IEBF agenda in Oslo included panel discussions, thematic sessions on new and renewable energy and blended finance, one-to-one business matching, and field visits. The objective of the forum was to enhance collaboration in the field of new and renewable energy sources, to promote industry development, and to encourage green investment. In order to achieve its goals, Indonesia needs to establish partnerships that combine investment, technology, and innovation.

On the sidelines of the forum, PLN Indonesia Power and Saltfoss Energi, Denmark, signed an MoU to conduct a joint study on the utilisation of new generation nuclear technology. Indonesia has significant potential for renewable energy, with an estimated 28 gigawatts of geothermal energy and a wide range of hydro and biomass resources across the region. This potential may be realised through the implementation of innovative financing schemes, technology transfer, and infrastructure improvements. Foreign investment, particularly from Europe, plays a crucial role. As a member of the IPG in the JETP, Norway invests via the Norfund Climate Investment Fund. An initial investment of USD 29.6 million has been announced as the first direct investment in a renewable energy project in Indonesia, part of Norway's commitment of around USD 250 million. This collaboration is further strengthened by the signing of a Joint Declaration on bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Norway in June 2025.
