In the first six months of 2025, Indonesia’s fisheries sector achieved export earnings of USD 29.8 billion, marking a strong performance for the industry. This growth is driven by sustained international demand, particularly for high-value products such as shrimp, tuna, and processed seafood. Key markets contributing to this revenue include major importers in Asia, Europe, and North America. The country’s export competitiveness has been boosted by improvements in supply chain logistics, better compliance with international standards, and supportive government policies targeting trade facilitation and sustainable fisheries management.
Despite the impressive figures, challenges remain. Indonesia must continue addressing issues such as overfishing, environmental sustainability, and maintaining traceability to satisfy increasingly stringent global regulations. Investments in cold chain infrastructure and quality assurance are essential to preserve product value and access premium markets. Moreover, diversifying export destinations and product forms—such as expanding processed seafood—could help buffer the sector against market fluctuations and external shocks. If these areas are managed well, Indonesia’s fisheries exports are poised to maintain momentum for the rest of 2025 and beyond.
