On 10-11 September 2025, the 10th Belt and Road Summit took place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year's event featured more than 660 exhibitors and thousands of business meetings, reaffirming Hong Kong's position as a key player in the global market. With its global network of 51 HKTDC offices and various outbound missions, Hong Kong has consolidated its position as a centre of connectivity and economic value-added. The summit facilitated new market access, deepened collaboration, and realised Belt and Road partnerships. To date, the HKTDC's global network of 51 offices has facilitated the attendance of more than 45,000 participants from 120 countries, the holding of 5,400 business meetings, and the facilitation of more than 2,000 projects. These projects have covered sectors such as infrastructure, finance, technology, and green development. The Belt and Road Summit, as part of the Belt and Road Initiative (B&RI) programme, presents significant opportunities for Indonesia and Hong Kong.
This initiative presents a range of opportunities for strategic projects, including the relocation of the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) to Kalimantan. This project will require the development of infrastructure such as airports, roads, hotels, and advanced technology, including 5G and 6G. Securing investment and involvement of partners from Hong Kong, particularly from the financial and professional services sectors, is crucial to support this initiative. A notable example is the chicken farm project in IKN in 2023. Despite its modest valuation of a few million USD (approximately IDR 49.5 billion), the project has the capacity to produce up to 1 million eggs per day. Furthermore, collaborations with Chinese partners have enabled the introduction of advanced poultry technology, including vaccines, with the support of Hong Kong universities. Such projects illustrate that B&RI is inclusive and cooperative, providing direct benefits to the community and strengthening economic connectivity between Indonesia and Hong Kong.
