In the near future, six new Special Economic Zones are to be inaugurated, according to the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs. The total investment target for the six Special Economic Zones is IDR 1,089.84 trillion. Furthermore, the development of these six Special Economic Zones (Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus/KEK) is expected to generate more than 1.4 million jobs. Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso has stated that the six Special Economic Zones are in the process of awaiting Government Regulation before being inaugurated by the president. The new Special Economic Zones include the KEK Subang, KEK Patimban, KEK Sidoarjo Halal Industry, KEK Batuta Chemical Industrial Park (BCIP), KEK Mangkupadi, and the expansion of the KEK Nongsa. The proposed expansion of the KEK Nongsa will cover 22.43 hectares for the development of a data centre.
The KEK Sidoarjo Halal Industrial, proposed by PT Makmur Berkah Amanda, is designed to support the development of the manufacturing sector focused on halal products. The KEK BCIP, proposed by PT Batuta Chemical Industrial Park, encompasses business activities such as the production and processing of coal gasification and diesel ammonium nitrate, logistics and distribution, and energy development. The KEK Patimban, proposed by PT Wahana Mitra Semesta, encompasses business activities including petrochemical downstream processing, EV batteries, semiconductors, logistics and distribution, and energy development. The KEK Subang, led by PT BYD Indonesia, will focus on the production and processing of electric vehicle assembly, as well as logistics and distribution. The Mangkupadi KEK, proposed by PT Kalimantan Industrial Park Indonesia (KIPI), focuses on the development of the manufacturing sector, particularly in production and processing, logistics and distribution, and renewable energy development.
