The Indonesian government is prioritising Robusta coffee from Lampung as a key export commodity in 2025 to stimulate national economic growth. Deputy Trade Minister Dyah Roro Esti emphasised leveraging Indonesia’s global trade network, including the Indonesian Trade Promotion Centres (ITPC) in 33 countries, to expand access for Lampung coffee in international markets. This push comes amid a sharp 69% surge in coffee exports, demonstrating robust demand from regions like Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Southeast Asia. The Ministry of Trade aims to increase overall export performance by 7% this year by focusing on high-potential local products, such as Lampung’s Robusta coffee.
On the regional level, Lampung authorities are implementing agricultural innovations to boost production and quality. Techniques such as the "fence system" planting have doubled the planting density—potentially increasing yields to 4 tons of coffee per hectare. The provincial government also supports replanting, quality-focused harvesting methods (like picking only ripe red cherries), and improved post-harvest processing with equipment like grinders and hullers. Additionally, there is a push toward product value-addition through roasting, packaging, and marketing training—aiming to elevate Lampung's coffee value and reach markets including the U.S., Japan, and Europe.
