Indonesia's Capital Market Investors Reach 18 Million, Majority Gen Z

The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) recorded that by August 2025, the number of capital market investors had reached 18 million, of which 7.56 million were stock investors. IDX Development Director Jeffrey Hendrik revealed that of this number, 54.23% were young investors, under 30 years old. Meanwhile, established investors, aged 31-40, accounted for 24.82% of investors. Furthermore, more experienced investors, aged 41-50, accounted for 12.26%. Meanwhile, investors in the older age group, aged 51-60, accounted for 5.74%, and retirement investors, aged 60 and over, accounted for 2.95%. "Since the 'I'm a Stock Investor' campaign was launched in 2023, there were 2.7 million new investors in 2024, and in 2025, as of August, there had been 3.1 million new investors," he told reporters on Tuesday (September 2).

Capital market investors are distributed across Java, Sumatra, and the remainder across other islands. According to 2024 data, approximately 68% are from Java and 16% from Sumatra. To promote capital market education and inclusion, the campaign is conducted through 29 IDX Representative Offices, 970 investment galleries at universities across Indonesia, and more than 6,000 capital market ambassadors. "We conduct more than 30,000 educational and outreach activities annually to increase awareness, literacy, and inclusion in the capital market," he concluded.
